Notice on Application for 2025 Chang’an University International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

To meet the growing international demand for Chinese language teachers, facilitate Chinese language education around the world, and support the professional development of Chinese language teachers, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) has established the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) for eligible Chinese language teachers outside of China. Chang'an University is a host institution for the Scholarship (ICLTS). Applicants can apply for ICLTS funding as either general visiting students or master's degree candidates to study Chinese at Chang'an University.


I. ELIGIBILITY

 a. Be a non-Chinese citizen.

 b. Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, abide by the laws and regulations of China and the rules and regulations of Chang’an University.

 c. Be in good physical and mental health, be in good academic and behavioral standing.

 d. Be interested in Chinese language education and related work.

 e. Be aged between 16 and 35 years on September 1, 2025. The maximum age limit for in-service Chinese teachers may be extended to 45.


II. SCHOLARSHIP CONTENT & FUNDING STANDARDS

Notes:

1. Twin room accommodation is provided by Chang’an university. Applicants who live off-campus will be provided a living subsidy: ¥700/month.

2. The application fee is ¥600, which is non-refundable and only accepts online payment.

 

Ⅲ. CATEGORIES & QUALIFICATIONS

A. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education

The program commences in September 2025, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of two academic years.

 >Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 5) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide an employment contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or proof to the same effect.

B.Scholarship for One-Year Study Program

The program commences in September 2025, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of eleven months.

a. International Chinese Language Education

 >Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3) and an HSKK test score is required.

b. Chinese Language and Literature

 >Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

c. Chinese Language Study

 >Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3), and priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

C.Scholarship for One-Semester Study Program

The program commences either in September 2025 or March 2026, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of five months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

a. Chinese Language Education or Chinese Language and Literature

 >Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

D. Scholarship for Four-Week Study Program

The program commences in December, 2025, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of four weeks. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

a. Chinese Language Learning

 >Applicants are required to provide an HSK test score. The program may be organized and applied for by a Recommending Institution with 10-15 participants per group. Before the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made in consultation with the Host Institution(s) at least three months in advance.

Note: In principle, applicants who have received the same type of scholarship within the past three years are not eligible for the one-semester or one-academic-year study programs.


IV. APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND APPLICATION DEADLINES (BEIJING TIME)

A. Application Procedures

Step 1: Online registration will be available from February 20, 2025 on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website (http://www.chinese.cn). Please log on to search for recommending institutions and Host Institutions (Please select Chang’an University as host institution); submit application materials online.


Step 2: Online registration will be available from February 20, 2025 on the Chang’an University International Education School’s application website(https://is.chd.edu.cn) and submit application materials online according to the instructions (Application documents’ list is as attached).


Step 3: Keep track of the application progress. Applicant should pay attention to the application system and registration email, review comments and scholarship review results.


Step 4: The successful applicants should follow the Host Institutions (Chang'an University's) requirements to go through the procedures of studying in China, and register at the Host Institution on the designated date as per the Letter of Admission.

B. Application Deadlines (Beijing Time)

 a. May 15 for the application for enrollment in September.

 b. September 15 for the application for enrollment in December.

 c. October 31 for the application for enrollment in March, 2026.


V. POLICIES REGARDING IN-SERVICE CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHERS AND CHINESE BRIDGE WINNERS

A. In-Service Chinese Language Teachers

In-service Chinese language teachers need to provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer.Priority will be given to applicants with the same qualifications.

2. Chinese Bridge Winners

Applicants who have received the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate during Chinese Bridge competitions need to submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to the Host Institutions (Chang’an University) directly at the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website.

Ⅵ. RECOMMENDING

Applicants for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship of Chang'an University who do not have a recommending institution, please email to Chinese Language Center (Confucius Institute) at Villa College in the Maldives (email: clc@villacollege.edu.mv).Please provide the passport's first page and your HSK/HSKK certificates to obtain a letter of recommendation.


Ⅶ. Other Requirements

a.Students who fail the entrance physical examination, drop out of school, fail to register on time without permission, will be disqualified from the scholarship.

b.The applicant shall provide real, complete and valid application documents. Once verified commit fraud, will be disqualified from the scholarship.
